1. In installing new hoses for both the front and back brakes, do I need to do anything in particular to fill the brakes with fluid or do I just follow the Bleed Procedure?

Do not use brake fluid, but only MAGURA Royal Blood mineral oil. Follow the bleed procedure meticulously and you'll make your brake work properly again rolleyes.gif
It is advisable btw that you change your hose, as the shown damage will cause sooner or later a damage. When it happens during a long descent this is definitely less amusing, isn't it?

2. Can I use any MTB Hydraulic brake hose, particularly Jagwire Hyflow Hoses?

Please note that MAGURA cannot test all the stuff flying around out there offered by other manufacturers. A disc brake is a SYSTEM based on components whose perfect interaction has been checked to detail here at MAGURA. I only can recommend you then to use GENUINE MAGURA stuff.
When you disregard this good advice all warranty and product liability requirements become null and void. What sounds strict has actually just one goal: your own safety, so please do not misinterprete this information.

Thanks

The position of the the BAT is not importance when it comes to a correct bleeding, otherwise we would have mentioned it clearly in the workshop manual and video.

You can buy spares for example at Chainreaction Cycles. No mixing and matching between older Julie and Julie hp models, please, as the latter is a high pressure system, whereas the Julies were low pressure ones (just like the rim brakes).

Cheers.

To make it short: Vinay will be back soon, and you'll get the expected long answer to your long list of questions. Sorry if my answer sounded a bit rude to you, my apologies for that.
It's a fact, though, that 85% of all customers get all answers to their questions with the mentioned info sources; We have admittedly some bottlenecks sometimes to satisfy also customers like you on time whose questions go really to detail...

Anyhow: Thanks for your patience and unvarnished opinion.

Cheers

If you throw a look in to the workshop manuals you'll see that MAGURA does not offer any spare seals or whatsoever because of safety reasons. A leaking master or caliper is always replaced by a new unit then.
What you intend to do is done at your own risk then. It might be more clever to get in touch with your national service center to get a good backup.

Cheers

Hi there,

we cannot do more from our end than offering a pretty good workshop manual plus a workshop video that shows everything to detail. What happened to you is not a mess and you do not have to change the caliper, but is is impossible for me to judge from here whether your failure might have consequences later as dirt, or any particles got in touch with the quad rings of the caliper...
Watch the caliper carefully then from time to time or make check the brake system by a professional bike mech to be on the safe side.

Cheers

The Laurin 130 FCR was discontinued in 2008. This fork offers adjustable travel from 130 to 100mm via remote control (FCR). Go for it, when you can buy it new, it's a very good product, but be careful with used items. I'd never buy a used fork...

Please get in touch with your national service center that hopefully will give you an address of a dealer where you can buy one.

Hi there,

Vinay has become daddy and obviously he cannot devote as much time as before to the forum. It's going to be tough to find a good substitute for him as I cannot be regularly in the forum because of a bunch of other tasks.

On the other handside I am always surprised about the huge amount of questions mainly in the fork section. We offer a good manual which explains everything to detail.

Mountain biking is no rocket science, is it?

If thousands of users on mother earth have already done this, why you shouldn't?

On the other handside: If your tandem has mounts for disc brake calipers this will always be a better choice (Gustav M or Louise with 203/203 rotors)

Cheers

You'll definitely kill your brakes when you do this. The master piston can be dismounted, we do advise against it, though. The pistons in the slave cylinders CANNOT be dismounted.

Please note that both warranty and product liability will become null and void when you realize your plans. Sounds strict, I know, but the safety of our customers is of paramount importance for us.

The difference is that the HS 33 is sold in the aftermarket also with 2-finger lever blade and always WITH booster, whereas the HS 11 comes only in full black, 4-finger lever blade and without booster.

Hope this helps...

Hi there,

I advise you to dismount your Claras whose production was stopped in 2002 and to rely on a new set of brakes. I'd never buy used disc brakes, no matter how bloomy they are offered on Ebay or elsewhere. Time didn't stand still in the last couple of years either, any actual model will be far better than your old Claras...

Cheers

Hmm, sounds a bit strange to me as it makes believe me that there is some sort of plug in the system which is more or less impossible. I advise you to make check the brake by an authorized professional bike mag, click here to get good addresses.

Looks as if your brake definitely need a correct bleeding. Check out workshop manual in the download section and/or the video showing clearly all steps that have to followed meticulously.

Get in touch with your national service center for a solid answer (dealers often say that small parts are no longer available as they are too lazy to order these for their customers because of the hassle caused by that. Sad, but true... unsure.gif

Go to the accessory section of any disc brake model, and you'll see what we have in store to solve the problem (hose guides in both composite and aluminium).

Spare hoses are avaible in ONE length only (you will have to shorten normally the hose then). See exploded view in the workshop manual of the download section.

Hi there,

please note that there is no adaptor available for your project from our end, no need to worry anyway. Look for a POSTMOUNT caliper for your Marta (for example at Chainreaction Cycles) you can mount the rotor on the mounts in combination with a 160mm rotor (I assume that the bolts are PM 6" ones for direct mount of caliper in combination with a 160mm rotor). If you want to go for a 180mm rotor on the mounts you need in addition adaptor 6 with order code 0722 322.

Good luck!

Hi there,

I just come back from Eurobike which ended yesterday. Website was updated before we left to Eurobike and is admittedly not 100% yet, however the basics are clearly mentioned. Nevertheless below all answers before going to bed after a pretty exhaustive 4-day Eurobike. Sorry for not being in a position to offer 100% service on time, but MAGURA is tiny in comparison with S..m or S...o and their marketing troups....

During Eurobike I do principally not work online in the evening. A 12-hour show day is pretty exhaustive...

a ) A new logo (see images) : will this updated logo be present on all Marta 2011 models (Marta, Marta SL, Marta SL Magnesium) ?

Logo was updated in April 2010 and stands for a new era at MAGURA. We sell products no logos, however, so stay tuned with our Mission Performance!

b ) New Storm SL rotors

Described on the website 2011 to be fine tuned in the coming week.

c ) Will there be new colors introduced?

Not with Marta SL mag.
New Marta FR (see magura.com)
Marta SL: New colour scheme full black, rather stylish in my opinion...

d ) Any other technical changes on the brakes?

Nope with the exception of the Storm SL rotors which are a big step forward and a first hint on what you can expect from Mission Performance. Why changing beside of that one of the best unless the best brake that MAGURA ever produced??

e ) When will these updated versions be in the shops?

End of sep onwards...

These bits are sold out already a long time at MAGURA. Be extremely careful with used items sold on Ebay etc. after almost 11 years of more or less intensive use these bits are ready for scrap, and nothing else...

I advise you to invest in a new brake instead, time did not stand still since then, you'll be surprised about the performance of a contemporary disc...

Hi there,

check out in the forum tips against squealing. Very often a squaling noise is not caused by the brake but by the spokes of the wheels. Try to check with wheels of your buddie whether your ones are the scapegoat. Care above all for a correct spoke tension.
I assume that you did the break-in correctly, sometimes it takes longer than described in our tech manuals.
